Scientists’ uncovered three more cannabis’ secrets in the past few weeks. All related to the effects cannabinoids have on the human body.
These discoveries will revolutionize medical treatment for COVID-19, heart disease, and sickle cell sufferers.
What are Cannabinoids?
Cannabinoids are a naturally occurring chemical in the cannabis plant. Scientists have isolated 113 cannabinoids from the cannabis plant.
Common cannabinoids or terms that you may know are:
1) THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and
Every cannabinoid is unique.
THC is a cannabinoid primarily found in the female buds of the cannabis plant. While the male plant is used for other extraction. Even the human body makes endocannabinoids in a system called the Endocannabinoid System.
The human body has receptors for cannabinoids. There are receptors in the brain, the reproductive system, and other parts of the body.
1. Cannabinoids for Heart Disease?
There’s lots out there that tells of the dangers of smoking marijuana with heart disease. But one recent observation study leaves us hopeful cannabinoids improve heart health.
Clinicians observed notable differences in heart patients who’ve smoked cannabis. They were far more likely to get out of the hospital alive after treatment for heart failure.
Many of us understand the trouble easing effects of smoking a joint. But the study goes further. It gives hope for a heart trouble cannabinoid treatment.
2. A Cannabinoid Treatment for COVID-19 Patients.
The global pandemic, COVID-19 took us all by surprise this year. But a few good things have come from it thus far. One of them is the research on the use of cannabinoids to treat COVID patients.
Researchers concluded they’d found a treatment for cytokine storm in COVID-19 patients.
The Cytokine storm is the body’s overreaction to the virus. It brings on an exaggerated inflammatory response. The liver, kidneys, and lungs feel the effects.
Cytokine storms are not limited to COVID-19. The c-storm happens as a result of other viruses. A cannabinoid treatment to reduce the c-storm will be of value to patients even after the virus.
3. Cannabinoids Ease the Pain of Sickle Cell Disease
Another exciting revelation came during trial studies for sickle cell disease. Sickle cell disease is a genetic disorder, it affects the hemoglobin, the part of the red blood cell responsible for carrying oxygen.
Sickle cell turns red blood cells into the shape of a sickle. This shape makes it difficult for the affected red blood cells to carry oxygen.
Life with the disorder is painful. People with sickle cell are unable to function in daily life.
Researchers in a recent trial observed certain cannabinoids reduced patients’ pain. The normal treatment for pain associated with sickle cell is opiates. A cannabinoid treatment would provide an alternate, less addictive remedy for pain.
Cannabinoids have played a role in the human body since humans began walking on two feet. The human body can make its own cannabinoids.
And the body is designed to receive cannabinoids.
Nature is our friend.
