Celebrating the Harvest with Cannabis….and Pumpkin Bongs

Harvest reminds us not to take anything for granted. Not even the pumpkin. And definitely not the weed.

The harvest is here again. A time when we reflect on how much we have to be grateful for. Great people, new friends, old ones, laughter, food and regulated cannabis. Because it’s the simple things in life that make it worthwhile.

About Pumpkins

The pumpkin is a fruit native to North America harvested in mid to late fall. Despite being known for its orange color, pumpkin comes in a variety of sizes and colours ranging from yellow to green and white stripes. It’s this variety of colours and sizes makes pumpkin a great tool for decorating homes during the fall season.

Used by North American colonists in the 1700’s, pumpkin has become associated with North American harvest time. Though most pumpkins are grown in China, Russia, and Mexico now.

Apart from the terpenes, and plant features cannabis and pumpkins have little in common.  But when you put them together the party gets a whole lot sweeter.

The Pumpkin Bong

Many years ago, back in the day when medical marijuana was still just a thought, not an industry, my best friend and I scored a bag of dirty swagg.  The kind of stuff I would never inhale today even if there was nothing else around for miles.

Of course, we were too inexperienced to actually own a smoking device.  We didn’t even know how to roll a joint.  We’d heard of people smoking pot from apples and pumpkins.  So naturally, we went to the kitchen to find an apple.

There were no apples, but there was a pumpkin.

We had no clue what to do.  After poking two holes into the pumpkin we stuffed one hole with weed and put our mouth to the other.  Needless to say, the pumpkin bong was a disaster.  To avoid future pumpkin bong disasters I asked an engineer to give me advice on making a pumpkin bong.

How to Make the Pumpkin Bong

  1. First, cut a moth sized hole near the top of the pumpkin. The location of this hole matters because this is the mouthpiece.
  2. Next scoop out the insides of the fruit with a spoon.
  3. Third, make a hole in the pumpkin wall. The hole enters the wall higher and exits the wall near the bottom of the pumpkin. This intra-pumpkin hole will be the stem so the bottom hole must be under the water level. – The entrance of this hole will be the perfect place to carve out a decent-sized bowl for some premium cannabis.  Not swagg.
  4. The last step involves making a carb hole somewhere easy to use. Once all these steps are done it’s ready to rip.

The result? A mellow pumpkin-flavored bong hit.  A sure pleasure to share with happy relatives.

For those unhappy relatives try spiking their coffee. Or you can offer them some pie.
